32 Things I’ve Learned by 32

Posted on September 19, 2020 by Jenna Elise on Jenna Elise Blog

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written anything here. I never “quit” or gave up, life just got in the way. (I think it’s fair to say, we’ve all been there.) But while I was getting distracted, the ideas still rushed through my brain. As I sat down to write again all I had was a mish mash of thoughts. I also had a birthday coming up, so I just put the two together!

In no particular order, here’s 32 things I’ve learned by the time I turned 32:

1. Blogging is hard work (when you’re a perfectionist who wants to do it well). I used to scoff at “bloggers” because I never understood why they actually made money. Then I gave it an inconsistent shot. There’s a reason posts slowed down – it’s a lot of time and effort. But it’s also a labour of love. 2. It’s okay to not be liked by everyone 3. Your 30s really are fun. This is where life gets real. 4. An anxious mind always exists – it just shifts focus. Things that used to bug me just don’t anymore (ex) saying something stupid, OCD tendencies, work problems, deadlines, etc. My irrational thoughts now live in a place of worry for those I love – primarily my kiddo. (And yes, my cats are still wonderful therapy.) 5. It’s never too late to dream big. Who cares how old you are if you can make a dream come true? 6. Glorifying “busy” serves noone. Want to be less busy? Then don’t take on so much. 7. Spend a few minutes outside each day. It’s a mood lifter, no matter how cold. (Just think hot chocolate by a fire as your toes warm up.)

8. Fall still lights my soul. Some see it as the depressing start to winter. I see it as the beautiful, refreshing end to summer. 9. Find a little good in each day. Happiness really is a journey, not a destination. 10. Be present with those you love – physically and mentally. 11. Embrace all the seasons – in life and nature because they change so fast. 12. Stop worrying about looking stupid. Learn to laugh at yourself. Everyone’s busy being caught up in their own insecurities anyways. 13. Say “I love you” more. 14. Proper nutrition is a game changer for the day (with some indulgences allowed). Want more energy? Fuel yourself properly. 15. Stop feeling pressured to experience “self care” the same as everyone else. For some it’s a bubble bath, for me it’s a lit candle, cup of tea, cozy blanket and a sitcom. 16. Envision your dream life. Work hard to make it happen but don’t lose sight of the dream you’re living now. 17. Drink lots of water. It makes everything better – your skin, digestion, and mind. 18. Massages and chiro are incredible, but maintenance is everything. Just GO. 19. Nobody will praise you for saving sick days. If you’re entitled to a day off – just do it. 20. Life is all experienced in the “grey areas”. It’s not all black and white. Think critically, but keep an open mind. 21. Everyone has a story. Learn it. 22. Don’t criticize until you’ve walked a mile in others shoes. (Ex. Everyone’s been a student, few have been a teacher.) 23. Social media is just a highlight reel – stop comparing. 24. Don’t delete the bad pictures. The best ones from childhood have messy hair, blinking eyes, and questionable outfit choices. 25. Not everything warrants an explanation. If you know in your gut you’re on the right track, you don’t need to justify it to others. 26. Set a clean up “timer “. The to do list will never end so just do a little each day and then enjoy yourself.

27. Wash your face every morning and ever night- even when you’re not wearing makeup. Your skin will thank you. 28. The scariest and hardest things are often those most worth it. (Ex) motherhood

29. A little make up, earrings and painted nails will for wonders for a quick confidence boost. 30. Toddlers are wonderful and weird creatures.

31. Perfect is an illusion. Find joy in the mess and learn as you go.

32. Age is just a number. The only difference is this list has 32 things, and not 31. Thanks to all you wonderful souls for being a part of the journey!
